Vermont sits just south of our Mitcham base, so it is a quick trip for a measure and quote. For a long time it was orchard country, and much of it was subdivided in the 1950s and 60s. Today it is an established suburb of family homes on generous blocks with mature trees, and Canterbury Road runs right through the middle.
Homes from those decades have usually seen a renovation or two by now, which means a lot of Vermont kitchens and bathrooms are sound but showing their age. Owners often tell us they want a modern finish without moving plumbing or ripping out cabinetry that still works perfectly well.
Popular choices for Vermont households
- Kitchen cabinet and furniture wrapping: new colours and woodgrain finishes on solid cupboard doors, drawer fronts and pantry doors.
- Vinyl wrap splashbacks: a cleaner look over dated tiles that pulls the kitchen together.
- Stone and marble protection film: clear protection for a new stone benchtop before it picks up its first etch mark.
- Bathroom screens: film on shower screens and bathroom glass for privacy or an updated look.
- Home window tinting: takes the heat out of family rooms and sunrooms with large windows facing the garden.
- Opaque glass film: full privacy for toilets, ensuites and windows that face straight into the neighbour’s yard.
Generous blocks, family rooms and mature gardens
Vermont’s larger blocks often mean homes that have been extended out the back, with a family room or meals area added on and plenty of glass facing the garden. Those rooms are lovely to use, but depending on orientation they can get uncomfortably warm in the afternoon. Heat control film is one of the most common things we discuss here.
The other big one is the kitchen. Plenty of Vermont kitchens were installed in an earlier renovation with good quality carcasses that are still square and strong. In that situation, wrapping the doors and splashback gives a modern colour at a fraction of the disruption of a full replacement. If you are adding a new stone benchtop at the same time, protection film is worth considering from day one.
Our process
We begin with a free quote and an on site measure. You will get sample swatches to look at in your kitchen or living room, because colours change a lot between morning and evening light.
Once you have chosen, we schedule the work. Preparation comes first: cleaning, degreasing kitchen surfaces, and removing handles and hinges where needed. Then we install and trim the film. Window films have a curing period, and our curing period and inspection page explains what to expect. For day to day care, including what cleaners to avoid, see our maintenance page.
When a wrap is the right call
A wrap is a great option when the structure is good and only the surface is tired. It is not the right option when cabinet carcasses are swollen from water, when drawers no longer run properly, or when the layout simply does not work for your family. In those cases we will tell you that new joinery is the better spend.
We also take care around heat. Panels right beside a cooktop or a wall oven can get hotter than vinyl is designed for, so we may suggest leaving those areas or using a different material. For windows, we check whether your glass is single or double glazed, and whether it already has a tint, before recommending any film.
Can a laminate kitchen from an earlier renovation be wrapped?
Usually, if the doors are flat or have a simple profile and the laminate is still firmly bonded. We check for swelling near the sink and dishwasher, chipped edges and lifting corners. Sound doors can take a new colour or timber look, while damaged ones need replacing or repairing first. We will show you which doors fall into which group at the quote.
Will window film help a sunny family room in summer?
Heat control film can noticeably reduce the heat and glare coming through glass, which makes a north or west facing family room more comfortable. How much depends on the film, the glass and the window size. We bring samples and explain the trade off between darker films and keeping your outlook to the garden clear.
Do you come to Vermont for small jobs like a single splashback?
Yes. Vermont is close to our Mitcham base, so a smaller job like one splashback, a vanity top or a few bathroom windows is no trouble. We still do a proper measure and bring samples, because getting the colour and fit right matters just as much on a small job as on a whole kitchen.
