Knox covers a lot of ground. On one side you have established estates in Rowville, Wantirna and Scoresby, and on the other the leafy streets of Ferntree Gully, Boronia and The Basin climbing toward the foot of the Dandenong Ranges. In between are business parks, shopping centres and plenty of family homes built over several decades.
That variety is why we don’t run a one size approach here. A house under the trees in The Basin needs something different from a two storey home in Rowville with a wall of glass facing the back yard. From our Mitcham base we travel right across the City of Knox, so wherever you are in the area, we can come and measure up.
What tends to suit homes and businesses in Knox
- Home window tinting: for larger living areas and sliding doors that take the full afternoon sun.
- UV window film: a near clear option for homes in the foothills where people want to keep the view of the trees.
- Kitchen cabinet wrapping: updating kitchens from the 80s, 90s and 2000s without pulling them out.
- Stone and marble protection film: for renovated kitchens where the stone benchtop was a big spend.
- Bathroom screen film: privacy or decorative film on shower screens and bathroom glass.
- Office window tinting: for offices in the business parks around Scoresby, Knoxfield and Bayswater.
Knox homes, estates and foothills
A lot of Knox was built out as suburban estates, so many homes share a similar layout: open plan kitchen and family room at the back, often opening onto a deck. When that room faces north or west it can get very bright and warm in the afternoon. Film on the main glass helps, and it’s far less work than replacing windows.
Closer to the ranges, around Ferntree Gully, Upper Ferntree Gully and The Basin, blocks are often steeper and more treed. Here the issue is usually glare through gaps in the canopy and fading of floors and furniture, rather than full sun all day. Owners in these areas generally want to keep their outlook, so clear and light films are the usual pick.
Some parts of Knox near the ranges sit in bushfire prone areas. Interior film and wraps don’t change the outside of a house, but if you’re thinking about film on glass in a home built to a bushfire standard, it’s worth checking with your builder or council first.
From quote to finished job
Every job starts with a free quote and on site measure. We bring sample swatches so you can see colours and film shades in your own light. Then we clean and prep the surfaces, apply the film or vinyl, and trim it in place. Read about the curing period and inspection to know what to expect in the first days, and our care and maintenance advice for the long run.
Where we’d hold back
Wraps are great on sound cabinetry, but they won’t fix swollen board under a sink or an oven housing that gets hot. Peeling vinyl doors need the old skin removed first. We’ll tell you if a job isn’t suited to wrapping. On glass, double glazed units and existing tints need checking for compatibility before we recommend anything.
Common questions from Knox homeowners
Do you cover all of the City of Knox?
Yes. We travel across the whole Knox area, including Wantirna, Wantirna South, Rowville, Scoresby, Knoxfield, Bayswater, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Upper Ferntree Gully, The Basin and Lysterfield. We are based in Mitcham, so most of Knox is a reasonable drive for us. Just let us know your suburb when you book and we will arrange a time to measure.
Our house in the foothills is surrounded by trees. Will window film make it too dark?
It doesn’t have to. Clear UV films block most UV while letting almost all visible light through, so the room stays bright. Darker tints suit rooms that take strong direct sun, but in a treed setting they can make a space feel gloomy. We bring film samples to the measure so you can see the difference in your own light before choosing.
Can you protect a new stone benchtop in a Rowville renovation?
Yes. A clear protective film can be applied over stone and marble benchtops to help guard against etching, stains and scratches from daily use. It needs to go on a clean surface with no existing damage. We’ll check the stone during the measure and explain how to look after the film so it keeps doing its job.
