Interior Wraps & Window Film Ivanhoe

Interior Wrap & Film Specialists for Ivanhoe

Ivanhoe has some of the most character filled housing in Melbourne’s north east. Wander off Upper Heidelberg Road and you find Victorian, Edwardian and interwar homes with timber floors, leadlight front doors and high ceilings, sitting alongside later homes and newer apartments.

People who live in houses like these usually want to keep the character while making them more comfortable. We come over from Mitcham for this kind of work, and most of it is about the windows: privacy, sun on old timber floors, and adding a period feel to plain glass.

The Ivanhoe streetscape and why it matters for film

Ivanhoe is in the City of Banyule. The Upper Heidelberg Road shopping strip is the heart of the suburb, and most of its buildings date from the interwar years. The Art Deco Heidelberg Town Hall, now part of the Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub, is one of the best known buildings in the area.

In the homes, the glass is often original. Front doors, sidelights and bathroom windows may be plain where leadlight was removed long ago, and that is where stained glass effect or decorative film can bring back some period character. Timber floors in north and west facing rooms fade over the years, so UV film is a common request. Inside, older kitchens that were updated in the 1980s or 1990s often have sound cabinetry that wraps well.

Services we recommend for Ivanhoe homes

How we run the job

We begin with a free quote and on site measure. In older homes we take extra care checking the glass, since original panes can be thinner, uneven or have small chips. We bring samples, so you can hold stained glass effect and decorative patterns up to the actual door or window.

Preparation comes first on the day, then installation and careful trimming around old frames. Film needs time to settle, and you may see a little haze at first. Our curing period and inspection page explains what to expect, and our maintenance guide covers cleaning.

What we tell Ivanhoe homeowners up front

Film and wrap are not right for every period feature. We do not recommend wrapping genuine timber joinery that would be better restored, and we will not put film over cracked or loose glass. Old putty and frames sometimes need attention before film can go on.

If you have real leadlight, film is generally not the answer, as it is designed for flat panes. And if your home sits under a heritage overlay, check with council before making changes that can be seen from the street. We would rather raise these things early than have you disappointed later.

Ivanhoe FAQs

Can stained glass effect film match the look of our period home?

It can come close. Stained glass effect film adds colour and pattern to plain glass, which suits front doors, sidelights and hall windows in older homes. It is not leadlight, and up close you can tell the difference, but it gives a period feel without the cost and fragility of real stained glass. We bring samples so you can judge it yourself.

Will UV film stop our timber floors fading?

UV film reduces the ultraviolet light coming through the glass, which is one of the main causes of fading. It slows the process rather than stopping it completely, because visible light and heat also play a part. For rooms with a lot of sun on timber floors or furniture, it is a sensible step.

Can you work on heritage listed homes in Ivanhoe?

Most of our window films go on the inside of the glass and can be removed later, which is why they are often used in older homes. If your home is subject to a heritage overlay, it is worth checking with Banyule City Council about any changes visible from the street before booking.
