Croydon has changed a lot. Plenty of the big blocks that once held a single weatherboard or brick house now have two or three townhouses on them, and that brings its own set of problems: windows that look straight into the neighbour’s living room, brand new stone benchtops that owners want to keep perfect, and rentals where landlords want protection that comes off cleanly later.
From our base in Mitcham we head out along the Maroondah corridor to Croydon regularly. We work with homeowners, investors and the traders in and around Main Street, which is still one of the busier shopping strips in the outer east.
Croydon streets, townhouses and shopfronts
The dual occupancy and unit developments that went in from the late 1990s onwards tend to sit close together, with side windows and upstairs bathrooms facing each other across a narrow gap. That is where privacy film earns its keep. It lets light in during the day while blurring the view, and it doesn’t need curtains that block the sun.
Older houses still scattered through the suburb often have original timber windows and kitchens that have never been touched. Then there’s Main Street, with its cafes, eateries and small businesses, plus the shops around Croydon Central. Shopfront glass facing the afternoon sun can make a counter area uncomfortable, and businesses often want a refresh of counters and fit out without closing for weeks.
Services that suit Croydon properties
- Privacy glass film: for townhouse windows that overlook a neighbour or a shared driveway.
- Kitchen benchtop protection: a clear film over new stone or laminate benchtops in fresh builds and rentals, helping guard against scratches and stains.
- Residential surface protection: covering other high wear surfaces in new homes before tenants or kids get to them.
- Opaque glass film: full privacy for ensuite and toilet windows where you don’t need a view at all.
- Pubs and cafes: wrapping counters, tables and bar fronts so a venue looks fresh without a full rebuild.
- Office and shopfront window tinting: cutting glare and heat on street facing glass for Main Street businesses.
When film or a wrap isn’t the right call
We’ll be honest with you. If you own a unit or townhouse with an owners corporation, check the rules before putting film on windows that can be seen from outside, because some have requirements about external appearance. Inside the home it’s rarely an issue.
For rentals, a protective film is reversible, but it should go on a clean, undamaged surface. If a benchtop is already chipped or stained, the film won’t hide that. In cafes, we steer clear of wrapping anything right beside hot equipment such as grills or fryers. And on double glazed windows we always check the glass before choosing a film, as not every film suits every unit.
What to expect when we do the work
We start with a free quote and an on site measure, and bring sample swatches so you can see options against your own fittings and light. For businesses we talk about timing so the work fits around trading. Surfaces are cleaned and prepared, then the film or wrap is applied and trimmed in place.
Afterwards there’s a short settling time. Our curing period and inspection page explains what’s normal in the first days, and our maintenance guide covers cleaning so it stays looking right.
Croydon FAQs
We’ve just finished a townhouse in Croydon. When should the benchtop protection go on?
The best time is after the builder has finished and the stone or laminate has been cleaned, but before you or your tenants move in. That way the film goes over a clean, undamaged surface. If the place is already occupied, it can still be done; we just need the benchtop cleared and cleaned before we start applying the film.
Can privacy film still let light into a townhouse bathroom?
Yes. Privacy and frosted films are designed to let daylight through while blurring what’s on the other side, so a bathroom or stairwell stays bright. If you want no view at all, an opaque film is the stronger option. We bring samples to the measure so you can hold them up to the actual window and judge.
Do you work with shops and cafes on Main Street?
We do. We can wrap counters, bar fronts and tables, and apply film to shopfront glass to cut glare and heat. For any business, we’ll talk through timing during the quote so the work fits around your trading hours as much as practical, and we check whether your landlord needs to approve changes to the glass first.
